Workshop on Big Data and Statistics Print

The Galician Society for the Promotion of Statistics and Operations Research (SGAPEIO), the research group Modeling, Optimization and Statistical Inference (MODES) from University of A Coruña (UDC) and Cloud and Big Data for HPC Research Network in Galicia organize a workshop on Big Data and Statistics.

Recent advances in information technologies and the increasing number of online applications have made traditional analytic tools to be useless in many practical settings. As a consequence, modern organizations are now facing new challenges in analyzing and understanding data. The term Big Data is often used to refer to treatment and analysis of huge data repositories. They are so disproportionately large that it is impossible to work with conventional statistical and computational tools. The purpose of this meeting is to promote this new knowledge field.

The workshop will be held on June 19, 2015, at the Computer Science Faculty (FIC), (UDC) in A Coruña (Galicia, Spain). The scientific program of the meeting includes four plenary lectures by invited speakers, which are recognized experts in this field. Three of them are academic researchers and another one comes from a company. The program, also includes a Big Data Applied Workshop with R.

We are looking forward to seeing you here, enjoying the conference and the city!
